About

Shelton Powell is an entrepreneur, operator, and digital business strategist best known as the founder and CEO of Cart Capital, an eCommerce infrastructure company focused on helping online brands scale through systems, backend operations, and long-term operational efficiency. His entrepreneurial journey reflects resilience, adaptability, and a relentless focus on building scalable businesses rooted in infrastructure rather than hype.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada with Jamaican roots, Shelton grew up with a strong understanding of both discipline and perspective. His father made it a priority to ensure Shelton understood where his family came from, regularly taking him to Jamaica not as a luxury experience, but as an opportunity to witness the realities and challenges faced by the community firsthand. Those experiences left a lasting impact, instilling a sense of responsibility and a desire to eventually create opportunities that extend beyond personal success.

Growing up, Shelton was not a traditional academic standout. He often described himself as the class clown, more energized by competition and ambition than classroom structure. Football initially became his focus because it represented a clear path forward and provided discipline, but over time he realized his true passion existed elsewhere. Around the age of sixteen, he discovered eCommerce and immediately became consumed by the possibilities of online business.

While many of his peers focused on sports or school, Shelton spent his time learning how online brands operated, how digital systems functioned, and how businesses could be built from a laptop. The competitive drive he once directed toward athletics shifted fully into entrepreneurship and online commerce.

Shelton’s first work experience came through the Ottawa Police Service YIPI paid co-op program in 2017, where he earned the money that funded his earliest eCommerce venture. Over the following years, he worked across several industries including childcare through the YMCA, restaurant operations at Lonestar and Five Guys, and telecommunications sales at Bell Canada. Each role provided practical insight into business operations, customer interaction, systems, and discipline while simultaneously funding his entrepreneurial ambitions.

In April 2020, at nineteen years old, Shelton left traditional employment to pursue eCommerce and agency operations full time. During the COVID-19 period, while many businesses slowed down, Shelton accelerated aggressively into digital commerce and backend infrastructure development. He began helping influencers launch merchandise brands, building websites for eCommerce operators, and creating operational systems for scaling online businesses more efficiently.

That operational experience eventually led to the launch of Cart Capital, an eCommerce infrastructure company focused on building brands through operational systems rather than short-term trends. Cart Capital supports clients through business setup, supplier relationships, payment processing, media buying, creative strategy, fulfillment infrastructure, and backend operational systems. Under Shelton’s leadership, the company has expanded into a team of more than forty members and has contributed to the development of hundreds of online brands.

Beyond Cart Capital, Shelton is currently developing additional infrastructure-focused ventures, including a sourcing and fulfillment company designed to strengthen supply chain support for online brands, as well as a growth infrastructure agency focused on revenue systems, CRM implementation, offer positioning, and operational scalability.

In 2021, Shelton served as a panel host for a Shopify online event, sharing operational insights on eCommerce infrastructure and brand scaling. He also continues creating content through YouTube and digital platforms, documenting his entrepreneurial journey and providing practical business frameworks for aspiring entrepreneurs seeking alternatives to traditional career paths.

Outside of business, Shelton prioritizes fitness, football, cooking, and music as consistent parts of his routine. He views physical discipline as directly connected to operational discipline in business and believes that long-term success is built through consistency, resilience, and systems-oriented thinking.

Today, Shelton Powell continues building infrastructure-focused companies while positioning himself as a next-generation entrepreneur focused on scalable systems, operational excellence, and creating opportunities through digital business innovation.
